GOVERNMENT AND PUBLIC SECTOR UNIONS COMMENCE TALKS ON MEMORANDUM OF UNDERSTANDING FOR HOME-GROWN PROGRAMME OF FISCAL ADJUSTMENT AND REFORMS


 

ST. GEORGE’S, GRENADA, Tuesday, April 01, 2014: The Government of Grenada and the major public sector unions commenced talks last Thursday (March 27) on a Memorandum of Understanding that would guide relations during the Home-grown Programme from 2014-16.

 

At the invitation of the Prime Minister, the unions have agreed to work towards a Memorandum of Understanding and submitted a first draft to Government in early March 2014.

 

The Unions engaged in these talks are Public Workers Union led by its President, Mr. Adrian Francis, Grenada Union of Teachers led by its President General Mr. Lydon Lewis and the Grenada Technical and Allied Workers Union led by its President General Mr. Chester Humphrey.  Each union has three representatives.

 

The Government team consists of:

Mr. Timothy Antoine, Permanent Secretary, Finance

Ms. Lana Mc Phail, Permanent Secretary, Office of Prime Minister

Ms. Anna Brizan, Acting Permanent Secretary, Department of Public Administration

Mrs. Beryl Issac, Department of Public Administration

The key issues include: wage restraint, employment protection, productivity enhancement and joint monitoring of the Home-grown Programme.
