GRENADA TO PARTICIPATE IN 3RD TRADE POLICY REVIEW IN GENEVA
ST. GEORGE’S, GRENADA, Friday, June 13, 2014: Grenada together with the other Organisation of Eastern Caribbean States (OECS) World Trade Organisation (WTO) members will have their Third Trade Policy Review (TPR) by the World Trade Organization from June 17-19, 2014 in Geneva.
Grenada will be represented at the TPR by Dr. Patrick Antoine, Grenada’s Ambassador to the WTO.
The TPR process is mandated by Annex 3 of the Marrakech Agreement which forms part of the WTO body of agreements. Developing countries such as the OECS are mandated to undergo a TPR every six (6) years. The first trade policy review of the OECS WTO Members was held in 2001 and the second review was held in 2007.
The purpose of the TPR is:
“to contribute to improved adherence by all Members to rules, disciplines and commitments made under the Multilateral Trade Agreements and, where applicable, the Plurilateral Trade Agreements, and hence to the smoother functioning of the multilateral trading system, by achieving greater transparency in, and understanding of, the trade policies and practices of Members”.
